Dr. Marcine Adams, Ph.D founded How About Learning, LLC seven years ago when she decided to pursue her Ph.D in Curriculum Studies at the University of Illinois At Chicago. She currently has her Doctorate in Philosophy with her research mainly centered on assessment and grounded in Vygotsky’s theories about learning. She graduated from DePaul University with a degree in Elementary Education in 2013 and has her Masters in MESA (Measurement, Evaluation, and Statistical Analysis). She is currently an Adjunct Professor at Arizona State University and the Tutoring Coordinator for the University of Illinois at Chicago’s College of Education. Outside of work Marcine enjoys spending time with family and friends and volunteering at schools with the company’s mascot, Cooper, a reading therapy dog.
TEACHERS ON SITE- NORTHBROOK, IL
Edyta is currently teaching Special Education and English Language Learners at LEARN Charter School in Great Lakes. She graduated from DePaul University in 2014 with a degree in Secondary Education with a focus in Social Sciences and History. Since then, she has expanded her love of learning by going back to receive her Polish Bilingual Endorsement, English Language Learner endorsement, an Elementary Education Endorsement, and most recently her Special Education endorsement (LBS1). She is currently finishing her Masters at National Louis University in Curriculum and Instruction. Edyta has worked as a 5th and 6th Grade Social Studies Teacher and a 4th-8th Grade Reading Teacher. She has also provided interventions in reading and math for 3rd-8th grade students. Edyta enjoys reading, being creative, and spending time with friends and family.
Kim is currently a high school math teacher in Grayslake. She has a passion for math and working with students. Throughout her teaching experience, she has taught Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Precalculus. Kim graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Mathematics and received her Masters in Secondary Mathematics Education from National Louis University. She has also completed coursework for her ESL and LBS1 endorsements. Outside of work, Kim enjoys working out, cooking, watching sports and spending time with family and friends.
Anna is currently a special education resource teacher for students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. Previously, she taught second grade and in the early childhood setting. Anna’s favorite part of teaching is building relationships with both students and their families. She enjoys connecting families with resources that help them help their children both in and out of school. Anna graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education and added her Learning Behavior Specialist 1 endorsement after 6 years of teaching. When she is not working, Anna enjoys drawing, podcasting, & spending time with her family & friends.
Evan is currently an Instructional Assistant at Maple School in Northbrook, Illinois. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in History-Social Science Education from Illinois State University. In the past, Evan has taught classes on U.S. History, U.S. Government, and Philosophy. Evan prides himself on teaching not only content, but also essential skills such as reading, writing, speaking, listening, and research. He believes that these skills create lifelong, independent learners as well as critically thinking citizens in a global community. In his spare time, Evan enjoys reading, creative writing, and spending time with his parakeet, Cosmo.
Kelly is a 3rd-grade teacher on the north side of Chicago. She went to school with a passion for teaching mathematics. Kelly graduated from Elmhurst College where she studied Elementary Education with a minor in mathematics. She also has received her ESL endorsement. She has experience teaching second through fifth graders, but has enjoyed tutoring students ranging from elementary to high-school for the past several years. Outside of working with children, Kelly loves to bake, work out, watch movies, and spend time with her friends.
Nicole is a middle school math teacher at LEARN Charter School in Great Lakes. She graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Middle Childhood Education degree in math and science. Throughout her teaching career, she has taught science and math for grades 5-8 as well as Algebra. Nicole has over 6 years of experience tutoring math and enjoys intensely working one-on-one with students in order to meet their academic goals. She is passionate about teaching math in a way that is exciting, engaging, and allows the students to make connections on their own. In her spare time, Nicole enjoys working out, volunteering, hanging out with her dog, and watching documentaries with her husband.
Katie graduated with a BA in English Education from Western Illinois University in May of 2020. She is currently searching for a full time English teaching position within a local high school, where she hopes to make a difference in the lives of her students. Katie’s passion has always been to help others and she strongly feels that schools are places where young people can be helped with a wide array of essential skills. She not only enjoys helping students with educational content, but the strong bonds she makes with her students is something that brings her great joy as well. In her free time, you can find Katie painting landscape pictures, hanging out with her dog, or fishing in the great outdoors with her family!
Scott is a rising junior who currently attends Glenbrook North High School. He plays both club and school volleyball. He has been a Junior Counselor at a local park district camp and enjoys finding new ways to help kids have fun. He loves organizing anything and everything he can get his hands on and considers himself a perfectionist. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music, watching Netflix, and spending time with family and friends.
Velin Georgiev is a recent graduate of Glenbrook North High School. He is an incoming freshman at Butler University where he will be majoring in Healthcare and Business. During his high school career, he played school and club volleyball and was a member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Medical Club, Key Club, and After School All-Stars. In his free time, he volunteers at Highland Park Hospital and Kidnectivty, a pediatric physical therapy center. Before working at How About Learning LLC, he was employed at the Northbrook Park District where he was a pool cashier for the 2019 pool season. After that, he became a batting cage, gym, football, and basketball attendant. He has known Dr. Marcine Adams since middle school when he tutored with her. She currently tutors his little sister! He is so excited to work at this amazing company!
Luke Smith is a sales clerk at How About Learning. He emigrated from South Africa five years ago and is proficient in English and Afrikaans. He has obtained his associate’s in Mathematics and Sciences from Oakton Community College in Des Plaines and currently studying Biological Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is an elite swim instructor and LifeTime athletics. His current hobbies include swimming, physical training, drawing, and science!
READING THERAPY DOG
How About Learning, LLC has a mascot! Cooper, a Morkie, is a registered Therapy Dog. He visits schools once a week, to “work” with classrooms as a reading companion. Registered Therapy Dogs are trained and tested for health, obedience, and temperament. Cooper enjoys long walks and playing with his puppy pals. His favorite treats are peanut butter flavored and enjoys greeting everyone he meets with kisses! Student involvement with Cooper will be based on their comfort level.
