Dr. Marcine Adams, Ph.D founded How About Learning, LLC seven years ago when she decided to pursue her Ph.D in Curriculum Studies at the University of Illinois At Chicago. She currently has her Doctorate in Philosophy with her research mainly centered on assessment and grounded in Vygotsky’s theories about learning. She graduated from DePaul University with a degree in Elementary Education in 2013 and has her Masters in MESA (Measurement, Evaluation, and Statistical Analysis). She is currently an Adjunct Professor at Arizona State University and the Tutoring Coordinator for the University of Illinois at Chicago’s College of Education. Outside of work Marcine enjoys spending time with family and friends and volunteering at schools with the company’s mascot, Cooper, a reading therapy dog.
TEACHERS ON SITE- NORTHBROOK, IL
Kim is currently a high school math teacher in Grayslake. She has a passion for math and working with students. Throughout her teaching experience, she has taught Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Precalculus. Kim graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Mathematics and received her Masters in Secondary Mathematics Education from National Louis University. She has also completed coursework for her ESL and LBS1 endorsements. Outside of work, Kim enjoys working out, cooking, watching sports and spending time with family and friends.
Anna is currently a special education resource teacher for students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. Previously, she taught second grade and in the early childhood setting. Anna’s favorite part of teaching is building relationships with both students and their families. She enjoys connecting families with resources that help them help their children both in and out of school. Anna graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education and added her Learning Behavior Specialist 1 endorsement after 6 years of teaching. When she is not working, Anna enjoys drawing, podcasting, & spending time with her family & friends.
Melissa is a Spanish Teacher in Northbrook. Melissa graduated from DePaul University where she studied Elementary Education with a concentration in Spanish. She has experience teaching Spanish to preschoolers through fifth graders. She also has experience teaching students in a Dual Language setting. Outside of working with children, Melissa loves to spend time with her family; cooking and exercising.
Meryl is an elementary special education teacher who has worked with students in both elementary and high school settings over the past 12 years. She graduated from Drake University in 2008 with her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education with reading and special education endorsements. In 2012, she completed her Masters of Education in Reading to be a Reading Specialist, from National Louis University. Meryl loves to learn and has completed coursework and endorsements in ESL, middle school language arts, and teacher leadership. Meryl is passionate about creating and implementing lessons based on student’s individual needs and interests. She incorporates growth mindset thinking throughout her teaching. When Meryl is not working, she enjoys being creative, spending time with her family and friends, listening to music, and reading.
Nicole is a middle school math teacher at LEARN Charter School in Great Lakes. She graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Middle Childhood Education degree in math and science. Throughout her teaching career, she has taught science and math for grades 5-8 as well as Algebra. Nicole has over 6 years of experience tutoring math and enjoys intensely working one-on-one with students in order to meet their academic goals. She is passionate about teaching math in a way that is exciting, engaging, and allows the students to make connections on their own. In her spare time, Nicole enjoys working out, volunteering, hanging out with her dog, and watching documentaries with her husband.
Scott is a rising junior who currently attends Glenbrook North High School. He plays both club and school volleyball. He has been a Junior Counselor at a local park district camp and enjoys finding new ways to help kids have fun. He loves organizing anything and everything he can get his hands on and considers himself a perfectionist. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music, watching Netflix, and spending time with family and friends.
Velin Georgiev is a recent graduate of Glenbrook North High School. He is an incoming freshman at Butler University where he will be majoring in Healthcare and Business. During his high school career, he played school and club volleyball and was a member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Medical Club, Key Club, and After School All-Stars. In his free time, he volunteers at Highland Park Hospital and Kidnectivty, a pediatric physical therapy center. Before working at How About Learning LLC, he was employed at the Northbrook Park District where he was a pool cashier for the 2019 pool season. After that, he became a batting cage, gym, football, and basketball attendant. He has known Dr. Marcine Adams since middle school when he tutored with her. She currently tutors his little sister! He is so excited to work at this amazing company!
My name is Luke Smith and I work as a sales clerk at How About Learning. I am a first-generation immigrant in the United States. I emigrated from South Africa five years ago and I am proficient in English and Afrikaans. I have obtained an associate’s in Mathematics and Sciences from Oakton Community College in Des Plaines and currently studying Biological Sciences at UIC. My current hobbies include swimming, physical training, drawing, and science!

Morgan is an Elementary school teacher in the charter school system in the area. Morgan graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2017 where she earned a Dual-Degree in Elementary and Special Education, as well as an Endorsement in Structured English Immersion. Morgan has worked with students from Pre-K through 12th grade in all subject areas, including those with special needs. She will be starting her second year as a 1st grade teacher. Morgan is an Arizona native and loves the sun! When she is not teaching, Morgan loves to spend time with her family outside hiking and exploring. She also enjoys baking, crafting and watching movies.
READING THERAPY DOG
How About Learning, LLC has a mascot! Cooper, a Morkie, is a registered Therapy Dog. He visits schools once a week, to “work” with classrooms as a reading companion. Registered Therapy Dogs are trained and tested for health, obedience, and temperament. Cooper enjoys long walks and playing with his puppy pals. His favorite treats are peanut butter flavored and enjoys greeting everyone he meets with kisses! Student involvement with Cooper will be based on their comfort level.
