How About Learning hires certified educators catering to students Pre-K to Grade 12. Our tutors are helping students succeed in all subject areas, depending on their certification and expertise.
Marcine founded How About Learning, LLC seven years ago when she decided to pursue her PhD in Curriculum Instruction at the University of Illinois At Chicago. She currently completed her Doctorate with her research mainly centered on assessment and grounded in Vygotsky’s theories about learning. She graduated from DePaul University with a degree in Elementary Education in 2013 and has completed her Masters in MESA (Measurement, Evaluation, and Statistical Analysis). She is currently an Adjunct Professor at Arizona State University and the Tutoring Coordinator for the University of Illinois at Chicago’s College of Education. Outside of work Marcine enjoys spending time with family and friends and volunteering at schools with the company’s mascot, Cooper, a reading therapy dog.
TEACHERS ON SITE- NORTHBROOK, IL
Gabby is currently a senior at Elmhurst College studying Elementary Education and will be receiving her ESL endorsement upon graduation in the Spring of 2019. She has experience teaching preschoolers through sixth graders and is student teaching in a first-grade classroom this school year. She has also taught in Jamaica twice– once in a first-grade classroom and again in a fourth-grade classroom. Outside of working with children, Gabby loves to scrapbook, read, and spend time with her friends.
Lauren is an elementary school teacher in the Chicago Public Schools. Lauren graduated from Indiana University with her degree in Elementary Education in 2012. She also received her ESL endorsement from American College of Education in 2015. Lauren is originally from Detroit, Michigan and moved to Chicago about 5 years ago. She’s taught grades 1-5 in her 6 years of teaching and is currently teaching third-grade math and science. Last year, 96% of her students met their growth target on the NWEA assessment. She loves yoga, music, cooking and spending time with friends and her family. She just recently got married and traveled to Europe for the first time!
Kim is currently a high school math teacher in Grayslake. She has a passion for math and working with students. Throughout her teaching experience, she has taught Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Precalculus. Kim graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Mathematics and received her Masters in Secondary Mathematics Education from National Louis University. She has also completed coursework for her ESL and LBS1 endorsements. Outside of work, Kim enjoys working out, cooking, watching sports and spending time with family and friends.
Edyta has worked as a Reading Teacher with 4th – 5th-grade students, and is now working with 5th – 8th grade students in an English Language Arts classrooms. In addition, during the summer, she has taught English in Poland. She graduated from DePaul University in 2014 with a degree in Secondary Education with a focus in Social Sciences and History. Since then, she has expanded her love of learning by going back to receive her Polish Bilingual Endorsement, as well as an Elementary Education Endorsement. Edyta enjoys reading, being creative, and spending time with friends and family.
Anna is currently a special education resource teacher for students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. Previously, she taught second grade and in the early childhood setting. Anna’s favorite part of teaching is building relationships with both students and their families. She enjoys connecting families with resources that help them help their children both in and out of school. Anna graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education and added her Learning Behavior Specialist 1 endorsement after 6 years of teaching. When she is not working, Anna enjoys drawing, podcasting, & spending time with her family & friends.
Dana is currently a K-2 Special Education teacher in Palatine, where she has been teaching for four years.The first two years in a mild to moderate setting and then moved to a more accelerated level of student needs. Dana graduated from the University of Dayton in May of 2014 with a degree as an Intervention Specialist. After graduating, Dana taught 7th to 12th grade internationally, focusing on United States curriculum in both English and History. Outside of work Dana enjoy reading, many activities that are outside, cooking/baking, and spending time with family.
READING THERAPY DOG
How About Learning, LLC has a mascot! Cooper, a Morkie, is a registered Therapy Dog. He visits schools once a week, to “work” with classrooms as a reading companion. Registered Therapy Dogs are trained and tested for health, obedience, and temperament. Cooper enjoys long walks and playing with his puppy pals. His favorite treats are peanut butter flavored and enjoys greeting everyone he meets with kisses! Student involvement with Cooper will be based on their comfort level.
